Cardiovascular: Coronary and Peripheral Studies

The surgical and interventional suites offer facilities specifically designed for preclinical research, including two cardiac catheterization labs with digital angiography (Artis Zee Floor, Siemens), equipped with Intra-Vascular Ultrasound (IVUS, ILab, BSc), Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT, Ilumien Optis, SJM). We perform both coronary and peripheral stenting and have a very strong expertise in bioresorbable scaffolds. Also we perform coronary and peripheral drug coated balloon (DCB) studies.

Structural and Cardiac Research

Structural cardiac disease has become an intensive field of medical device development. Using the interventional suite described above, we perform TAVI, mitral valve replacement (with transapical or transeptal approaches), LAA occlusion, PFO occlusion on a regular basis.

A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner (1.5 tesla Magnetom Sonata, Siemens), hybrid surgical room with computer tomography (CT) scanner (Somatom Sensation 16, Siemens) and an Intra-Cardiac Echography (ICE) (Acuson, Siemens) are also available on-site to complement and support these studies.

With the support of its Regenerative Medicine Laboratories, AccelLAB is also very active in the study of various treatment modalities for myocardial infarct whether it be with cell therapy or local drug delivery. AccelLAB’s surgeons are experienced in both surgical and endovascular approaches.

Electrophysiology Studies

All types of EP studies can be performed at AccelLAB in various models including dogs, sheep and swine. We can perform ablation, intracardiac electrical pathway, pacemaker, cardiac defibrillator and arythmia studies.
We use a complete electrophysiology study equipment (EP-Tracer, Cardiotek) and a Biosense Webster Stockert system.
